Alumni Nico Bastidas, Esq. (`22) and Max Stein, Esq. (`24) joined us today for a Lunch & Learn hosted by the Office for Career Development, in collaboration with the St. Thomas Law Network, Caribbean Law Students Association, and Black Law Students Association.

They shared their experiences navigating their pathways to legal practice, discussed how to make the most of the resources available at STU College of Law, and spoke about their work in Construction Law and Litigation at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP.

Last week, Professor Youkyung Huh was part of the Consumers International delegation at the 16th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD16) in Geneva, ensuring consumer priorities are part of global discussions shaping the future of trade and development.

In roundtable discussions and panel interventions, she highlighted the connections between digital rights, consumer protection, and trade as Artificial Intelligence emerges in the digital economy.

The UNCTAD16 convened ministers of trade and economy, leaders of international organizations, representatives of civil society, the private sector, youth, and renowned experts to engage in high-level dialogue on global trends and policy perspectives.

Law students on a mission to protect animals! 🐶🐱

Third-year law students Karem M. Cortez, President of the STU College of Law Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) Student Chapter, Laura Leyva Hevia, Vice President, and Stephanie Tamayo (`25), alumna and former ALDF Vice President, proudly attended the 2025 Animal Law Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

As travel-grant recipients from the Animal Legal Defense Fund and Attorneys for Animals, they joined leading advocates and scholars in discussing pressing issues in animal protection law. The conference featured animal advocates who shared groundbreaking insights on litigation, policy reform, and ethics in the evolving field of animal law. The experience was both inspiring and educational, reinforcing their commitment to advancing animal welfare through advocacy and legal innovation.

Dean Tarlika Nuñez-Navarro and law students Brannon Bailey (3L), Jenna Nemeth (3L), and Sophia Agro (1L) attended the Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s “A Night for Justice” Gala on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Alumni Max Stein, Esq. (‘24) and Nico Bastidas, Esq. (‘22) were also in attendance. The event brought together members of the legal and local community to celebrate and support Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s critical work of providing free legal services to those in need. The evening also recognized several deserving honorees for their dedication to advancing the cause of justice. STU College of Law was honored to sponsor this inspiring event.
