Anna M. Chan

Anna M. Chan is an Associate Professor and Director of the Legal Writing Program.

Under her guidance, the Program has developed a curriculum known for its innovation in the teaching of practice-oriented research, drafting, and oral advocacy skills. She has also been instrumental in shaping and strengthening the Program’s core structure of small workshops, taught by expert full-time faculty, all of whom are also active in the legal community. As a co-director, she assisted in the creation of adjunct workshops as well as the Dean’s Teaching Assistantships, during their experimental years. She also helped to create the Writing Enhancement and Skills program and structured its integration, at its inception, into the Legal Writing Program.

She has published in academic and law review journals, and received her B.A., cum laude, from the University of California at Berkeley, where she co-edited the Asian-American Review, assisted in the Asian Studies Program, and served as a faculty-appointed student representative on both the Faculty Committee on Educational Policy and the University Chancellor’s Committee on Continuing Education.

She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and serves in the school’s alumni mentoring program. She is the current faculty sponsor of the Asian American Law Students Association at St. Thomas.

During her time as a member of the law faculty, she has also taught Federal Courts, Property I and II, and Interviewing, Counseling, and Negotiation.
