Maria E. Lauredo served as an appellate Assistant Public Defender for eleven years, arguing all categories of criminal appeals before the Third District Court of Appeal and the Florida Supreme Court. She is counsel of record in over 165 published opinions. From 2001 to 2005, Ms. Lauredo worked as an Assistant General Counsel for the University of Miami, focusing on physician group and hospital compliance with the then-newly enacted Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Since 2010 she has served as the Chief Assistant Public Defender for the Appellate Division of the Law Offices of Public Defender Carlos J. Martinez. At St. Thomas University School of Law Ms. Lauredo teaches Appellate Advocacy.
