Katerine Lopez

Professor Katerine Lopez obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, with a minor in Biology, from Hofstra University in 2009. She then attended St. Thomas University School of Law, where she served as Staff Editor for the St. Thomas Law Review, ultimately earning her Juris Doctor Degree in 2013. Professor Lopez has demonstrated a deep commitment to public service and to providing zealous representation to the indigent population in Broward County, Florida, since 2014. She currently serves as Chief Assistant Public Defender for the County Court Division of the Law Office of the Public Defender, training, supervising, and mentoring new attorneys to the profession. She previously served as the head of the Forensic Unit at the Broward County Public Defender’s Office, assisting in forensic litigation, primarily in the field of Forensic DNA Identification. In her career as a public defender, Professor Lopez has litigated hundreds of criminal cases, including major crimes and forensic evidence cases. In her spare time, Professor Lopez coaches law students who are competing on the championship STU Mock Trial Team.
