Collett P. Small

Collett P. Small is an Adjunct Professor at St. Thomas University College of Law, where she teaches the Elder Law Clinic and Family Wealth Management course. She is a founding Partner of Slater & Small PLLC. Ms. Small is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as a Specialist in Elder Law. She served as the Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar 2017-2018 and is the President of The Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys. She is on the Board of Directors for the Weston Bar Association. Ms. Small is a member of the executive council of the Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar and currently chairs the Strategic Planning Committee. She is also a member of the Joint Public Policy Task Force of the Elder Law Section.

Professor Small has a passion for legal education and is the immediate Past Chair of the Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education Committee. Professor Small writes articles that address Elder Law issues and frequently lectures on Elder Law, Estate Planning, Guardianship, Probate and Asset Preservation for Long Term Care Planning. She is the proud recipient of the 2022 Florida Bar Elder Law Section’s Charlotte Brayer Public Service Award. She is on the Professional Advisors Council for the Community Foundation of Broward. She is a former member of the School Advisory Council for Broward County Public Schools. She also volunteers at local law schools, bar associations, and community events and serves as a mentor to law students and new attorneys throughout the state.

Professor Small has been recognized as a Super Lawyer in Elder Law in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. In law school, she worked as an intern with the Social Security Administration Office of Hearings and Appeals on disability cases. Law is her second career; prior to law school, Professor Small enjoyed a successful career as a Bank Manager and was a Vice President with two major financial institutions.

When she is away from the office she enjoys traveling, competing in marathons, home renovation projects (a new and necessary hobby), spending time with her family and tending to her growing collection of orchids.
