Daniel C. Munce
Daniel Munce is an Assistant Professor of the Clinical Tax Program and Director of the Tax Clinic. Before his faculty appointment, Professor Munce was a Supervisory Trial Attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel. In this role, he managed attorneys responsible for representing the Commissioner of Internal Revenue before the United States Tax Court. Prior to becoming a manager, Professor Munce was a senior attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His legal practice focused primarily on tax controversy. He represented the Commissioner of Internal Revenue before the United States Tax Court and advised the Internal Revenue Service on a variety of novel and complex legal issues. Professor Munce also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. This appointment authorized him to represent the United States of America and its agency, the Internal Revenue Service, before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Before accepting the position with the Office of Chief Counsel, Professor Munce was a Deputy Attorney General with the New Jersey Department of Law & Public Safety, Division of Law, Treasury Section. While working as a Deputy Attorney General, he represented the New Jersey Division of Taxation before the Tax Court of New Jersey. Professor Munce began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for an Assignment Judge with the Superior Court of New Jersey.
Professor Munce taught tax law classes as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University Benjamin L. Crump College of Law and two schools in the Philadelphia area. He is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He is also admitted to the bars of the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the United States Tax Court.
