The Honorable N. Hunter Davis

Hunter Davis has served as a Judge of the Circuit Court for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit in Fort Lauderdale, since 2018. He currently presides in the Criminal Division, hearing all criminal cases, from third-degree felonies to capital homicides. From September 2018 to January 2021, Judge Davis also served in the Unified Family Division, hearing cases involving domestic violence injunctions, dissolution of marriage, paternity, adoption, and all other domestic relations matters.

In the decade prior to the bench, Judge Davis served as an Assistant Statewide Prosecutor and Special Assistant United States Attorney in the City of Miami, investigating and prosecuting organized crime, public corruption, drug-trafficking, complex fraud, and money-laundering offenses throughout the State of Florida, as well as serving as an Assistant State Attorney and/or Special Assistant State Attorney in and for the 11th, 15th, 17th, and 20th Judicial Circuits. Prior to entering government service, Judge Davis represented clients in private practice, in matters concerning commercial litigation and real property throughout South Florida.

A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Judge Davis received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in his hometown. He received his Juris Doctor from Washington & Lee University, in Lexington, Virginia, before earning a Master of Laws in Maritime Law from the University of Miami, in Coral Gables.

In his time away from the bench, Judge Davis shares his passion for the United States Constitution and the Florida Constitution as an Adjunct Professor of Constitutional Law at St. Thomas University School of Law. Judge Davis has also been invited to speak at many legal education programs, as well as undergraduate and law school classes on diverse subjects: from racketeering investigations and prosecutions to American legal history, mediation, and the use of technology in trial practice.

Judge Davis is a member of numerous voluntary Bar and service organizations. He is a member of the Broward County Bar Professionalism Committee and also serves as a Judicial Liaison to the Young Lawyers’ Division.
