The Honorable Raag Singhal
The Honorable Raag Singhal serves on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Appointed on December 20, 2019, Judge Singhal is the first Asian American to serve as an Article III judge in the jurisdiction of the Eleventh Circuit, which includes Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.
Before joining the federal bench, Judge Singhal spent eight years as a State Circuit Court Judge in Broward County, Florida, where he presided over criminal, civil, and mental health matters and served four times as an Associate Judge on Florida’s Fourth District Court of Appeal.
As a lawyer, Judge Singhal gained experience at a civil litigation firm followed by three years as an Assistant State Attorney. Thereafter, he ran a criminal defense practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for eighteen years. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Singhal handled more than two hundred jury trials including thirty first-degree murder cases.
Judge Singhal has held leadership roles across the legal community, including president of the Broward Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Stephen H. Booher Chapter of the American Inns of Court. He served on the Board of Directors of the Broward County Bar Association and as Associate Dean of the Florida College for Advanced Judicial Studies.
Judge Singhal received his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1989 where he was active in moot court and part of the team that won the J. Braxton Craven National Moot Court Competition (4th Amendment). He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Rice University in 1986.
