Robert D. Peltz

Over the past 45 years, Adjunct Faculty Professor Robert D. Peltz has developed considerable expertise in numerous different maritime and land based tort and commercial matters at the trial and appellate levels in both the federal and state courts.

He has the highly unusual distinction of having spent approximately half of his career representing plaintiffs and half representing defendants in a variety of maritime industry matters. His clients have included individuals, small businesses, large domestic and foreign corporations, international cruise lines, cargo and tanker carriers, port pilots, vessel manufacturers, shore-based gantry crane operators and p & i clubs. The diversity of his prior legal experience has provided him with unique insights and perspectives into the legal and practical issues inherent in maritime law and practice.

Following his graduation from Duke University and the University of Miami School of Law, where he was an Editor on the Law Review, Professor Peltz has also been active both scholastically and professionally. He has been Board Certified in Civil Trial Practice since 1986, selected as a Florida Super Lawyer in the field of admiralty and transportation law for each of the last 19 years, served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the national Maritime Law Association’s Cruise Line and Passenger Ship Committee for 7 years, elected as President of the Miami-Dade County Trial Lawyers Association, published 23 law review articles which have been cited by various state and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, co-authored chapters in maritime treatises and lectured to professional organizations throughout the country.
