The University Archives and Special Collections preserve, organize, and promote the use of the University’s permanent records and the rare and special materials that support the University’s educational mission.
The University Archives and Special Collections serve as a resource for St. Thomas University members, as well as scholars and researchers that are part of the academic community at large. Many of the items in our Special Collections have been curated for digitization and are now accessible as part of our Digital Collections.
Archives
The University Archives feature a collection of historical records, published materials, ephemera, and objects pertaining to the history of St. Thomas University from its inception to the present. The Archives preserve materials from Santo Tomas de Villanueva in Havana, Cuba (1946 to 1961), Biscayne College (1961 to 1983), and St. Thomas University (1984 to the present).
The University Archives collect and makes available records of permanent historical value from the University’s governing bodies, administrative offices, and academic departments, as well as materials on the University’s curriculum and student life. The University Archives hold documents in the following formats: minutes, correspondence, photographs, reports, yearbooks, syllabi, theses and dissertations, student and alumni periodicals, and other University publications.

Logos (Yearbooks)
The St. Thomas University Library holds yearbooks from Biscayne College and St. Thomas University, as well as Universidad de Santa Tomas de Villanueva in Havana, Cuba. These yearbooks provide an important record of academics, campus, and student life – as well as an amusing look back at decades gone by.
A more complete collection of yearbooks, including several from Universidad de Santa Tomas de Villanueva in the 1940s and 1950s, can be viewed in person at the St. Thomas University Archives.

The Voice Digitized Newspapers
From March 1959 until November 1990, the Archdiocese of Miami began publishing The Voice, a weekly newspaper that included a Spanish-language insert, La Voz Católica. In November 1990, The Voice merged with the Florida Catholic, now the official monthly newspaper of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami and the dioceses of Orlando, Palm Beach, and Venice. The Library’s digital archive contains the complete run of The Voice/La Voz, which is also accessible on Shared Shelf in The Voice Serials Collection.
The Florida Catholic Digitized Newspapers
The Library’s digital archive contains past issues of the Florida Catholic, the official monthly newspaper of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami and the dioceses of Orlando, Palm Beach, and Venice, since November 1990. The digital archive contains many issues, from 2009 to the present.
In the Ethical Arena (Podcast Series)
The Institute for Ethical Leadership at St. Thomas University Podcast Series, In the Ethical Arena, provides the STU community leadership wisdom and perspectives from mayors across Miami-Dade. By providing different perspectives to the STU community, we seek to empower a new generation of leaders committed to the principles of ethical leadership. Don Slesnick, Director of Partner & Community Relations, conducts the interviews and asks the mayors questions about their passion for service, ethical leadership practice, and how they have dealt with adversity through the years.
Driftwood Literary Arts Magazine
Driftwood Literary Arts Magazine is a student-edited publication of St. Thomas University. The first issue was published in 1967, and Driftwood was published annually until it ceased in 2005. A dedicated group of students and faculty revived the magazine in 2015. Thoughts was a handwritten literary publication of the students of Biscayne College published semiannually.

La Voz Católica Digitized Newspapers
In March 1959, the Archdiocese of Miami began publishing The Voice, a weekly newspaper with a two-page Spanish-language insert, La Voz Católica. The Voice was published as the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Miami until November 1990, when it merged with the Florida Catholic. The La Voz insert grew to four pages and eventually became a separately published newspaper in October 1982. The Library’s digital archive contains many issues of La Voz from 1990 to 2015. The La Voz insert from 1961 to 1982 may be viewed as part of The Voice Digitized Newspapers collection.
