Specializations

The Bachelor of Arts in English degree program offers students a launchpad to a successful content creation career. Each English major has the unique opportunity to tailor an individualized program of study that fits personal needs, tastes, and interests through specializations and guided study. The deegre also offers students the option to enter STU’s 3 + 3 BA/JD program.

Writing

A specialization in Writing within the BA in English focuses on developing advanced skills in creative, professional, and academic writing. Students explore various genres—such as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and digital media—while honing their voice, technique, and storytelling abilities. The specialization prepares graduates for careers in publishing, content creation, communications, and other writing-intensive fields.

Bachelor of Arts / Juris Doctor 3+3

STU offers a unique 3 + 3 BA/JD program that allows students to complete their bachelor’s degree requirements and earn their law degree in 6 years instead of the traditional 7.

Students spend less time in school and thus are eligible to take the bar exam earlier and enter the legal field a year ahead of their contemporary counterparts with the potential to take advantage of positions in private or public law in a less crowded competitive field.

Those who successfully enter the STU College of Law through the BA/JD program will automatically receive a $5000 scholarship for each of the three years of study while in law school.

According to U.S. News and World Report, law is the top career destination for English majors, with an average salary of $163,770. That is followed by editor, with an average salary of $73,080, and public relations professional with an average salary of $67,440. In addition to that, the New York Times reported that a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers showed the three attributes of college graduates that employers considered most important were written communication, problem-solving and the ability to work in a team.

Writing workshops refine their skills in creative and professional writing, and enhance their understanding of how language shapes communication.
