Applying for Financial Aid

Applying for financial aid is easier than you may think. Below are Application Guidelines, by program of study, to assist you with the application process. Keep in mind you will be required to reapply for financial aid each year.

Your financial aid file cannot be processed until all application requirements have been met. To ensure you submit all required applications and documents, please use the Application Guidelines below as a checklist.

After you have submitted all required documents, and your financial aid file has been reviewed, you will be sent an Estimated Award Notification Letter. It is recommended that you submit your applications as early as possible to allow ample time (at least 6 to 8 weeks) for your financial aid file to be processed by the start of the semester for which your are seeking financial assistance. The priority deadline to complete your financial aid file for the Fall semester is June 30.

Direct Deposit for Financial Aid Refunds

The University’s Student Accounts Office recommends that all students expecting to receive Financial Aid refunds enroll for Direct Deposit via their STU MyBobcat Self-Service Portal (Banking Information). Having Direct Deposit set up with your bank account ensures you will receive refunds quicker than by mailed check. Any funds applied to your student account in excess of your tuition, fees, and other direct costs will be refunded within 14 days after your student account reflects a credit balance. If you are requesting financial aid funds in excess of your anticipated costs, we recommend you provide your Direct Deposit Information at least 15 business days in advance of your anticipated refund date. You will need to provide the name of your financial institution, along with their routing number and your personal account number. Should your bank information change, it is your responsibility to update your Banking Information. For questions or assistance related to Direct Deposit please contact the University’s Student Accounts Office at 305.474.6977.

Application Tips

Apply Early

Completing your financial aid forms correctly and submitting them by the priority deadline increases the probability that your financial aid file will be processed and your funds will be available by the start of the semester for which you are seeking assistance.

Be Informed

Take the time to read all materials carefully, and be sure you understand the terms and conditions of the financial aid you are applying for. Read application instructions carefully to avoid mistakes or delays in the processing of your financial aid file.

Respond Quickly

If additional information is requested of you by the Federal Processor, the Office of Financial Aid, or your loan provider, respond as quickly as possible. A delay in your response will cause a delay in the processing of your financial aid file and may lead to loss of eligibility in some cases, especially if you miss a deadline.

Follow Up

If you think you’ve submitted all required documents and haven’t heard from the Financial Aid Office in a while, follow up. There may be something wrong with your application, or the Financial Aid Office may not have your correct contact information. You can check the status of your financial aid file online by using MyBobcat (WebAdvisor).

Keep Good Records

It’s strongly recommended that you create a file for all your financial aid documents. Keeping copies of your applications and maintaining organized records of any correspondence you receive while you are in school will help you keep track of your financial aid information and make it easier for you to manage your student loans when it comes time to enter repayment.
