Joel J. Walker is the Interim Law Library and Information Services Director and Assistant Professor of Law Librarianship. Professor Walker oversees the St. Thomas University Law Library system and staff of librarians and support specialists who provide resources and facilities to students, faculty, staff and alumni. He was appointed Interim Director of the Law Library in August 2026 after serving several years as a Faculty Services and Scholarly Communications Librarian and Student Services Librarian.

Professor Walker teaches the Legal Research Boot Camp, focused on legal research, strategy, and professionalism. He also advises and guides students in completing seminar papers, conducting research projects, and improving their research skills. He has taught legal research and writing courses in St. Thomas University’s 3+3 and the College of Law J.D. programs, in addition to giving guest lectures in several seminar courses. As a member of the Dean’s Leadership Team, Professor Walker collaborates with fellow administrators to identify opportunities, leverage resources, and implement initiatives that support the law school’s strategic priorities.

He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The University of Tampa, graduated from St. Thomas University School of Law, and received a Master of Library and Information Sciences from the University of South Florida, graduating magna cum laude. While a law student at STU Law, Professor Walker was an executive board member of St. Thomas University Moot Court Board and Black Law Student Association, interned at the Broward County School Board General Counsel’s Office, and had the honor of interning for the Honorable Tim Bailey at the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Florida.

Before attending law school, Professor Walker worked in Economic Development his home, Saint Croix. He was active in civic organizations geared toward the growth and development of Saint Croix and the Virgin Islands at large. Joel loves culture, language, travel, philosophy, narrative, and hopes to one day write a great fiction story.
