Thomas T. Nguyen
Dr. Thomas “Tom” Nguyen is an Assistant Professor of Academic Success and Bar Preparation. He comes to St. Thomas University Benjamin L. Crump College of Law with over twenty years of experience in academic and student services leadership. Dr. Nguyen believes in elevating students by fostering a positive and personal learning experience so they can reach their highest potential.
Recently, Dr. Nguyen worked as Director of General Education, Learning Outcomes and Assessment for Miami Dade College and as Director of Advising and Career Operations for Palm Beach State College. He previously served as Dean of Academic Affairs, over undergraduate and graduate programs including Physician Assistant, for South University.
Dr. Nguyen has worked as Associate Dean at Broward College, overseeing degree programs in Criminal Justice, Fire Science, and ROTC. At Miami Dade College, he was Director of the Law Center with oversight over Pre-Law and ABA Approved Paralegal Studies. Dr. Nguyen has had the privilege of teaching Legal Studies and Business Law for over twenty years at Miami Dade College, Broward College, Indian River State College, Post University, and the University of Miami. Dr. Nguyen has also practiced employment and business law and is licensed in Florida and the United States District Court for the Southern District.
Dr. Nguyen earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership, with honors, from Florida Atlantic University and a J.D. from the University of Miami, FL. His publications include Perceptions of Lawyers on Career Transition, Transferable Skills, and Preparation for Community College Leadership, and Teaching Adult Learners. Dr. Nguyen has also presented seminars: “Leadership Lessons: Trust and Leadership for Everyday People; “Academic Advising Bootcamp: Advising Essentials for Student Success”; and “Community College Leadership Competencies: Leadership Skills from a Lawyer”. His public service includes volunteering, working as a White House Intern, and serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
