STU a 2025 Great College to Work and Featured in Honor Roll
St. Thomas University (STU) has been recognized as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For® program. Specifically, STU is one of only three institutions to achieve Honor Roll status across all 10 categories:
- Job Satisfaction & Support
- Compensation & Benefits
- Professional Development
- Mission & Pride
- Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness
- Confidence in Senior Leadership
- Faculty & Staff Well-being
- Shared Governance
- Faculty Experience
- Inclusion, Belonging & Community
This achievement highlights STU’s continued progress to Pursue Excellence and become the Great Catholic University of the South. It also supports one of the key objectives of STU’s current Strategic Plan, to “become an employer of choice in the markets of serve.”
At STU, excellence is not only measured by student achievement but also by the dedication of the faculty and staff who make it all possible. For President David A. Armstrong, J.D., the recognition reflects the essence of the university’s culture:
“The heart of our institution is our faculty and staff, whose efforts ensure a quality education for our students. St. Thomas University has committed employees who are aligned with our mission to develop our students and guide them to become ethical leaders in our global community. We believe that all employees are STUwards of the institution. We are all stewards of the beauty of our campus, the future of our students, and the advancement of our Mission.”
The results, released September 19, 2025, at GreatCollegesList.com, are based on a survey of 199 colleges and universities. In all, 76 of those institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with St. Thomas University included among the medium universities with 3,000 to 9,999 students. The Great Colleges to Work For® program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country.
The award comes as no surprise to Dr. Seigfried Weissner, Associate Dean of Scholarship and Faculty Development, and Professor at the College of Law, who has dedicated decades of service to the university,
“STU continues to support, academic freedom in the nurturing environment of Catholic intellectual tradition. The trust by administration in the competence of faculty allows everyone to shine and develop their abilities to the fullest. STU is a place dedicated to the exploration of ideas, faculty leadership, and student growth.”
This honor comes at a time of remarkable momentum for STU. The university’s Pursue Excellence strategic vision continues to drive rapid growth, with six new buildings since 2018, a 78% percent increase in undergraduate enrollment, and bold initiatives that continue to transform campus life. Behind those numbers is something even more important: a culture where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to bring their best selves to work every day.
Being named a Great College to Work For® is more than recognition. It reflects the spirit that unites the STU community. From professors mentoring students late into the evening to staff ensuring every corner of campus feels welcoming, the people of STU are what make the university a great place to learn, grow, and belong.
