STU Choir & Musical Theatre Share Their Story

Outside the Goldbloom Convocation Hall, a joyful sound filled the air.
On Wednesday, April 30, the STU Choir and STU Musical Theatre dazzled audiences with Voices Unite, a dynamic two-act performance. The evening featured everything from timeless standards like Moondance and heartfelt pop with I’m Not the Only One to stirring spirituals like Elijah Rock and powerful show tunes such as This Is Me. Woven throughout the program was the story of the student experience at St. Thomas University. Act I showcased the STU Choir, while Act II belonged to STU Musical Theatre, though many talented students performed in both.
“I’m fortunate if I get to see these students twice a week,” said Director Dr. Arnekua Jackson. “But their dedication shows, and you can feel it in every note. These programs are taxiing on the runway now, but by fall, they’ll be soaring.”
And soar they will. If this debut under Dr. Jackson’s leadership was any indication, the sky is the limit. For two unforgettable hours, students, parents, faculty, and staff were treated to a powerful display of talent and energy. A brief intermission offered everyone a chance to grab a quick snack courtesy of Sodexo.
At curtain call, seniors Elger William and Marlon Mustelier were honored for their dedication to the program. Choir president Amandine Saliba and theatre president Adam Perez-Pinon were also recognized for their leadership and commitment to growing STU’s music programs.
Sound and lighting, provided by STU Audio Visual Services under the direction of Aaron Payne, brought the performance to life, and the Convocation Hall has never sounded better.
Dr. Jackson teased a new show coming this fall, and if Voices Unite was any preview, we cannot wait to see what is next featured on the STU stage.
