St. Thomas University (STU) announced today it has partnered with global esports and gaming organization Gen.G to participate in the Gen.G Practicum Abroad program, which offers students the opportunity to take part in an intensive, three-week experience studying in the heart of the esports industry in Seoul, South Korea.

“This partnership with Gen.G speaks to our Mission to develop ethical leaders for global emerging industries,” said David A. Armstrong, J.D., President of St. Thomas University. “By connecting our Sports Administration and Esports students with hands-on international experiences, we continue to position St. Thomas University as a leader in innovation, education, and real-world learning opportunities.”

“At St. Thomas University, we are committed to preparing our students for the global future of sports, business, and innovation,” said Prof. Craig Skilling, Director of Undergraduate Sports Administration and Esports Head Coach at St. Thomas University. “Partnering with Gen.G provides our students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain international industry experience, connect with global leaders in esports, and bring that knowledge back to elevate our programs, teams, and communities here in Miami.”

“This is our most ambitious program since the launch of our Gen.G Practicum Abroad program, bringing together some of the best universities in the country to expand their educational programs on campus,” said Arnold Hur, CEO of Gen.G. “The students will be fully immersed in Korea with hands-on experiences to give them a 360-degree view of the esports industry.”

Gen.G professionals will lead the Gen.G Practicum Abroad program, which includes custom esports programming, mentorship by industry professionals, special lectures, industry “lunch-and-learns,” and professional networking—all while immersing students in Korean culture and its deep history in esports. Students will also visit competitive organizations and gaming publisher studios.

“Being part of the Gen.G Practicum Abroad program is a dream come true,” said Kiara Salcedo, a second-year Varsity Valorant scholarship athlete and Esports Management student in STU’s Sports Administration program. STU’s program was one of the first undergraduate degrees of its kind in the nation and was launched in 1972, the same year the Miami Dolphins trained on STU’s campus and completed the NFL’s only perfect season. “As a student and competitor, I’m excited to learn directly from one of the world’s top esports organizations and gain insight into how global teams operate at the highest level. This experience will help me grow as a leader both in the classroom and in the arena.”

Beyond STU, the Gen.G Foundation has awarded scholarships to more than 40 students across the United States. Gen.G also operates the Gen.G Global Academy, the world’s first fully integrated academic esports program in Korea.
