Career Services Coordinator

**This is an on-site position. Remote workers will NOT be considered.**

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting the Director in programming and services provided by the Office of Career Services, including but not limited to outreach to students and employers, making referrals to advisors and appropriate personnel on campus, providing job search assistance, coordinating events, workshops, and career fairs. In addition, will be expected to assist with the development of experiential and internship opportunities for all levels of students.
The Career Services Coordinator works collaboratively with the Division of Enrollment Management and the Student Success Center as well as with staff across various departments and divisions within the university.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responds to phone inquiries from employers, students, alumni, faculty and staff
  • Makes referrals to advisors or other campus resources as needed
  • Utilizes a variety of technology platforms and face-to-face engagement, communicate with students and the public to promote the university’s services and programs
  • Greets students and provide them with internship and job search assistance
  • Supports planning and implementation of career-related events
  • Provides a full range of student services support to students and the public by responding to inquiries, requests for information, and assistance in person, online or by telephone for Career Services
  • Represents STU and the Office of Career Services at local events and in the community to enhance employer relations
  • Maintains the Career Services database with up-to-date employer contacts
  • Utilizes office software to keep notes of student/alumni advising appointments and walk-ins
  • Conducts classroom presentations on services, programs, and events, as well as conduct workshops on career-related topics to students and alumni
  • Creates engaging digital media content and presentations on career-related topics
  • Oversees data gathering and research for employment trends, interviews, resumes, career planning and other projects as assigned
  • Assists employers in posting jobs, coordinating campus interviews and other promotions or internships
  • Assists department head with development and marketing to expand internship and full-time employment opportunities specifically for targeted majors and industries
  • Works with and advises faculty and administrators on methods to enhance the quality of experiential learning/career development opportunities and to expand departmental participation
  • Follows-up with students and alumni to collect and report placement data for internship and full-time opportunities by using email and phone outreach
  • Assists in the creation of effective marketing strategies/materials to increase participation in Career Services events
  • Conducts student outreach by tabling on-campus, representing the Office at Career Services events, events held in conjunction with other departments (e.g. Alumni, Athletics, Gus Machado College of Business, etc.);
  • Assists with creation of newsletters of internships, job opportunities, fellowships, and other opportunities. Newsletters are disseminated to students, faculty, and staff
  • Uses industry-specific software including Starfish scheduling system, Handshake internship and job search engine software, Focus 2 self-assessment, and InterviewStream interview preparation tool; direct and answer questions that students, alumni or employers may have about the software
  • Presents at New & Transfer International Student Orientation, Student Club meetings, and other university functions, as needed
  • Attends off-campus meetings and events as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, along with two to three years of relevant experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Excellent communication skills—both oral and written
  • Familiarity with industry-specific software, including Starfish scheduling system, Handshake internship and job search engine software, Focus 2 self-assessment, and InterviewStream interview preparation tool; willingness to train and learn new software, as needed
  • Ability to follow instructions and prioritize activities/work
  • High degree of computer proficiency, especially in programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and in the use of the Internet
  • Ability to effectively network within the local environment to secure internship and job placement opportunities for students
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds
  • Should be available for occasional weekend and evening engagements

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
