Office of Physical Plant
The Office of Physical Plant is responsible for the repair, maintenance, utilities and operation of all the buildings and grounds of the University. At STU there are more than 19 structures totaling more than 350,000 square feet and we also maintain in excess of 100 acres of land.
The Office of Physical Plant is a service-oriented unit within the university. It is committed to providing a healthy, safe, clean and pleasant environment for students, faculty and staff that is conducive to the teaching/learning relationship; while also at the same time respecting the environment and encouraging personal intellectual freedom.
The Office of Physical Plant is located in Lewis Hall. The hours of operation are Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Physical Plant staffs are on duty from 6:00 am to 10:30 pm performing a variety of tasks in the building maintenance/repair, housekeeping, grounds and events setup fields.

Maintenance mechanics are on call 24 hours a day to respond to any emergencies. To report emergencies after hours please contact the Office of Public Safety at 305-628-6500 and they will in turn contact the mechanic on duty.
What We Do
St. Thomas University sits on approximately 140 acres of land. More than 40 acres are unspoiled and contain a large number of South Florida pines, live oaks, and a wide variety of native plants. We maintain over 350,000 square feet of building space, 18 structures (and expanding), and 96 acres of land that include 15 acres of athletic facilities.
The Office of Physical Plant is responsible for:
• Direct building maintenance operations
• Direct grounds maintenance operations
• Set up the buildings & grounds for special events
• Providing support for all other departments within the University
• Coordinating the work of the operation and maintenance staff with all other departments of the University
• Coordinate and supervise the work of outside contractors for maintenance repair work, renovations, and new construction.
