Wilfredo Fernandez

Wilfredo Fernandez joins the faculty after 30 years of service as a federal prosecutor. Upon graduation from law school he joined the New York office of Pillsbury Winthrop where he spent five years working on corporate banking transactions. He joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1991, where he completed more than 75 jury trials in the area of white collar crime, narcotics, immigration, firearms, and child pornography. He was Deputy Chief and Acting Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, Special Counsel to three U.S. Attorneys and Director of Training and Professional Development. In 2009 he was awarded the Attorney General’s Award for his trial work on a $1.2 billion money laundering trial that resulted in a four month trial. From 2014-2016 he worked with the Fraud Unit of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and was one of the prosecutors on the Deepwater Horizon criminal cases. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law and taught Legal Research and Writing from 1994-2010. From 2017 to 2021 he was as Senior Trial Attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in the Enforcement Division. He joins our faculty full time and will teach Legal Research and Writing.
