In preparation for the visit of Pope Francis to the United States, on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, St. Thomas University hosted its Inaugural Freshman Convocation with the theme: Care for God’s Creation. The keynote speaker for the event was the Most Reverend Thomas G. Wenski, Archbishop of Miami, who shared his thoughts on the New Encyclical of Pope Francis: Laudato Si – On care of our Common Home. He was joined by students and faculty who reflected upon this most historical document. The theme of the Archbishop’s presentation was particularly timely since not only was it a reflection on the new encyclical, but it also served as a means of preparing students for the Holy Father’s visit to Cuba and the United States taking place September 19-27, 2015.
