FBA Lunch Time Zoom Lecture With U.S. District Judge Rodney Smith

On August 13, 2020, by invitation only, STU Law Federal Bar Association (FBA) Student Division President, Shaymaa Shwel (3L), and Treasurer, Christopher Labora (3L) attended an FBA lunch time Zoom lecture.

The guest speaker was United States District Judge Rodney Smith who spoke on The Importance of Community Service. Judge Smith discussed the importance of community service and his own volunteer work in the local community, including with the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project; 100 Black Men of South Florida, Incorporated; the Boy Scouts of America; and the National Bar Association. Judge Smith also spoke about how his volunteer experience has impacted his career, his community, and him personally.

The Judge explained how others can get involved in their communities, and ended by quoting Shirley Chisholm: “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this Earth.”

Thank you, U.S. District Judge Rodney Smith for your inspiring words shared with our STU Law Federal Bar Association (FBA) Student Division representatives!
