St. Thomas Law Trial Team: Back-to-Back National Champions

St. Thomas Law Trial Team have won the National ABA Labor Law Trial Competition for the second year in a row. After winning the Regional ABA Labor Law Competition in Miami in last October, our team of regional champions headed to New Orleans for the National Championship against the other regional champions from around the country.

Championship Team Members: Yunis Curbelo (2L), Carolina Del Campo (2L), Jennifer Francisco (2L), and Stephanie Roman (2L).

After two days of intense competition where they faced off against Washington University and William & Mary, they defeated the team from UCLA in the finals to win the national championship.

The winning team included Yunis Curbelo (2L), Carolina Del Campo (2L), Jennifer Francisco (2L), and Stephanie Roman (2L). The team was coached by  last year’s championship team member Karina Harduvel ’18, Jeff James, and Katerine Lopez-Espinal ‘13. The faculty advisor was Adjunct Professor Houson R. Lafrance ’14. The all-female team, was recognized uniformly for their professionalism and advocacy by all who witnessed them in action.

With numerous past awards received, and state and national championships, this back-to-back national championship is yet another reminder of the commitment to excellence in the St. Thomas Law Trial Team program. The purpose of the Mock Trial Board is to promote excellence in litigation and trial advocacy skills. Students participate in state, regional and national advocacy competitions, vying for team membership through tryouts. St. Thomas University School of Law trial teams have achieved prominence in numerous competitions.
