STU Receives $3 Million Unrestricted Gift from the Frank E. Murphy Foundation

St. Thomas University is pleased to announce a $3 million unrestricted gift from the Frank E. Murphy Foundation to be used to further new initiatives at St. Thomas University.

“We are extremely grateful to receive this transformational gift,” said St. Thomas University President David A. Armstrong, J.D. “An unrestricted gift of this magnitude is an opportunity to move our University forward, accelerate our momentum, and fuel our progress. The impact of this gift reaches across the University touching countless lives.”

During the first ten months of David A. Armstrong’s presidency, the University launched a football and marching band program, began construction on the Gus Machado School of Business and started an Ethical Leadership Program.

Frank E. Murphy, CEO of University Housing Solutions (UHS), is a proponent of supporting education for those of all ages. He began his professional career as a high school teacher, and later founded UHS in 2007. UHS is one of the premier developers of college and university residential facilities in the United States.

“We believe in President Armstrong and his ability to take St. Thomas into its next chapter of growth,” said Frank Murphy. “We are very proud to support him, the faculty, staff, and most importantly the students of St. Thomas University.”

Frank Murphy (The Murphy Group) has established a foundation (https://www.frankemurphy.com/) specific to supporting higher education. Mr. Murphy started his career as a teacher, and to this day strongly believes in a deep support of education.

Mr. Murphy and UHS has a history of philanthropy with the various institutions they partner with. For example, at Tiffin University Mr. Murphy built a new addition to the library, called ‘The Murphy Center,’ to specifically support student success as a research and tutoring center. Mr. Murphy has also offered significant scholarship funds at Tiffin University, Heidelberg University, The University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University, and Madonna University.
