STU’s Sardiñas Gallery Announces a Solo Exhibition by Charles Eugene Humes Jr.
MIAMI, FL — September 18, 2026 — Sardiñas Gallery at St. Thomas University is pleased to announce ALL’S QUIET ON 62ND STREET, a captivating solo exhibition by celebrated visual artist Charles Eugene Humes Jr. The exhibition will run from Saturday, October 17, 2026, through January 8, 2027, offering a profound visual exploration of contemporary social themes.
ALL’S QUIET ON 62ND STREET presents a powerful collection of works examining the complex psyche and varied states of the Black experience. Utilizing a unique realist-minimalist methodology, Humes seamlessly blends collage, drawing, painting, and mixed media. His work fearlessly captures a myriad of poignant human conditions, including homelessness, depression, gun violence, aging, rites of passage, and loss. Central to his imagery are figurative natural and mechanical forms—signature icons Humes employs to document, examine, and honor the deep nuances of African-American life.
A native of Miami, Florida, with a rich family heritage rooted in the Bahamian Islands, Humes has spent over 40 years establishing himself as a master draftsman, painter, and muralist. He holds degrees from Florida State University and Florida International University. Over his distinguished career, Humes has received numerous national and regional awards for his poignant depictions of the African-American condition, including a Smithsonian Southern Arts Fellowship and an Ellies Creator Award.
Humes’ paintings, drawings, and large-scale public mosaic murals have been exhibited widely in major galleries, museums, and universities throughout the United States. This upcoming exhibition at St. Thomas University marks a significant homecoming celebration of his continued impact on the American art landscape.
