The St. Thomas University Choir is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of performance in choral music, fostering artistic excellence and innovation. Through rigorous training, diverse repertoire, and impactful performances, we empower students to develop their unique musical voices while shaping a music program defined by distinction and purpose.
Musical Theatre: Vocal Audition
Vocal auditions should consist of two varying music theatre selections memorized:
- Up tempo selection, 16 bars
- Ballad selection, 16 bars
If auditioning in person, please bring a marked copy of the music.
Musical Theatre: Acting Audition
Candidate shall fully prepare two 1.5 minute monologues, one comedic, and one dramatic. These can come from either Musical or Non-Musical Theater.
Monologues shall be fully memorized and presented as a full performance, with the transition between both included.
Total Duration: 3 to 5 minutes.
Choir Audition
Perform one song of your choice that best showcases your vocal ability and musicality. We reccomend the following genres: classical, musical theatre, folk, gospel, or contemporary art song. You may perform acapela or provide a backing track.
- Director will determine your vocal range and section placement (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass).
- Director will conduct a pitch-matching exercise, repeating melodic patterns played on the piano to assess pitch accuracy and ear training.
- Director will test sight-reading. Beginners will not be penalized for limited sight-reading ability but are encouraged to try.
- Director will conduct a brief interview. Candidates will be asked to share musical background, goals for joining the choir, and availability for rehearsals and performances.
Additional Information
Audition Day and time must be scheduled with the Director in advance before the audition. You may schedule an in-person or virtual audition. Dress professionally for your audition.
Be prepared to commit to weekly rehearsals and mandatory performances. All students are eligible for a scholarship. Merit will be based off talent.
