Florida School Districts Resume Field Trips St. Thomas University Invites Elementary School Children to a FREE Live Performance of a Popular Children’s Book

Miami, FL (January 25, 2022) – To celebrate the return of the age-old practice of student field trips, St. Thomas University (STU) is providing elementary school 3-5th grade students, the opportunity to see a FREE live performance of The Phantom Tollbooth. St. Thomas University’s Musical Theatre students will present the hour-long performances beginning at 10:30am on March 2nd and March 3rd, 2022.

The Phantom Tollbooth follows 10-year-old Milo, an ordinary boy who is bored with everything until he discovers a magic tollbooth in his bedroom. He soon embarks on a trip to Dictionoplis and Digitopolis, where he becomes enchanted by words and charmed by numbers and suddenly finds himself on a mission to save Princesses Rhyme and Reason. Along the way, Milo meets funny characters, including Azaz and Whether Man, and even finds a canine companion named Tock.

The children’s fantasy adventure novel, written by Norton Juster, with illustrations by Jules Feiffer, was first published in 1961 and remains acknowledged as a classic of children’s literature. Based on a 2007 online poll, the U.S. National Education Association listed it as one of the “Teachers’ Top 100 Books for Children.”  In 2012, the novel ranked as number 21 among all-time children’s novels in a survey published by School Library Journal.

St. Thomas University’s live performance of The Phantom Tollbooth will feature music by Arnold Black and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick.
