STU Law’s Moot Court Members Compete In Prestigious International Law Competitions

Congratulations to  Claudia Gurdian, William Cossio, and Gaia Rodriguez, who recently represented STU in the Richard DeWitt Memorial Vis Pre-Moot sponsored by the Florida Bar International Law Section, as well as the William C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Competition. The annual day long Pre-Moot was held in Miami, with some teams appearing virtually. The Vis Competition was held from Vienna, Austria, with teams appearing virtually from all over the world. The Team had had an opportunity to practice and sharpen their legal writing and mooting skills by presenting and defending their jurisdictional, procedural and substantive legal arguments before panels of some of the best practitioners in the field of international arbitration. The Team’s oralists, William Cossio and Gaia Rodriguez competed against teams from Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil), International Relations Institute of Cameroon, Universidad Ponteficia Comillas de Madrid, and Universidad Nacional de Colombia. They received high praise from the arbitrators for their preparation, knowledge of the law, and oratory skills. Additionally, the Team was awarded a check by the Florida Bar’s International Law Section towards STU’s participation in next year’s Vis Competition in Vienna.

Faculty Advisors, Professors Siegfried Wiessner and Susan Warheit, and Christian Gonzalez-Rivera would like to extend their congratulations to the Team on their most impressive performance, and thank the individual team members for their hard work and dedication throughout the past two semesters in paving the way for the next group of STU moot court members to compete in this prestigious International Law competition in Vienna.
